FAQ
Typefu doesn't insert text or expand abbreviations
Typefu needs Accessibility access. Check Settings ▸ Permissions.
If access is on but Typefu still can't insert text, open System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Accessibility, remove Typefu from the list and add it again. This also happens after an update replaces the app.
Abbreviations don't work in a password field
That's on purpose. Abbreviations pause while a password field or secure keyboard entry is active, and while an input method is composing text.
How do I stop Typefu in one app?
Add the app in Settings ▸ Ignored Apps. Abbreviations and the action menu won't run there. The Show action menu shortcut still works.
You can also hide the action menu on websites. Add the site under Websites in the same pane. It works in Safari and Chromium-based browsers, and includes subdomains.
How do I pause abbreviations for a moment?
Set the Pause or resume expansions shortcut in Settings ▸ Shortcuts, or turn off Expand abbreviations as you type in Expander.
The action menu shows up too often
In Actions ▸ Menu Behavior, choose When holding ⌥ while selecting or Only with the keyboard shortcut. You can also raise the Minimum selection.
Does my text leave my Mac?
Not by default. Snippets, lists and actions are stored on your Mac. AI presets use the on-device model, and dictation transcribes on your Mac. Text only goes out if you add a cloud AI provider yourself, or run an action that opens a website.
Does Typefu change my clipboard?
Typefu sometimes uses the clipboard to insert text. It puts back what you had copied afterwards, unless you copied something new in the meantime.
Can I back up my snippets?
Yes. In the Library, use Import and Export ▸ Export All as Markdown…. Actions export one at a time with Export….
How do I activate my license?
Open Settings ▸ License and enter your license key. Get one from the Typefu home page (opens in a new tab).
How do I get updates?
Turn on Automatically check for updates in Settings ▸ General.
Where do I report a problem or request a feature?
Open an issue on GitHub (opens in a new tab), or use Settings ▸ Support.
