Tokens and Fields

Tokens and Fields

Tokens are the parts of a snippet in curly braces. They ask you for a value, fill one in for you, or change what gets inserted.

You don't need to remember the syntax. Click Insert Token in the snippet editor to pick one from a searchable grid.

Hi {text name="Name"},

Your ticket is now {choice name="Status" options="Open=OPN, Closed=CLS"}.
Here's your code: {list name="Promo" take=1}

{toggle name="Signature" text="Best regards"}

Fields

Fields show up in the fill-in form when you insert the snippet.

TokenWhat it asks forExample
TextA line of text{text name="Name"}
Multiline TextA paragraph{text name="Notes" multiline}
ChoiceOne option{choice name="Status" options="Open=OPN, Closed=CLS"}
Multiple ChoiceSeveral options{multi name="Tags" options="Bug, Feature, Question"}
From a ListAn item from a saved list{list name="Countries"}
Date PickerA date{date name="Due" format="d MMMM yyyy"}
NumberA number{number name="Quantity" min=1}
ToggleInclude text when on{toggle name="Signature" text="Best regards"}

Tips:

  • In a choice, Label=Value shows the label in the form and inserts the value. Closed=CLS shows "Closed" and inserts CLS.
  • Add default="..." to pre-fill a field and placeholder="..." to show a hint.
  • Add required to make a field required.
  • Use the same field name twice and you only fill it in once.
  • A toggle can insert other text when off: {toggle name="Urgent" text="URGENT: " off=""}.
  • Multiple choice and lists join items with , . Change it with separator=" / ".

Values

Values fill themselves in. No form needed.

TokenWhat it insertsExample
Next Item from a ListThe next unused item, then marks it used{list name="Promo" take=1}
Today's DateThe date, formatted{date format="d MMM yyyy"}
ClipboardWhat you last copied{clipboard}
Selected TextThe text selected right now{selection}
Another SnippetA snippet inside this one{snippet:Signature}
CounterA number that counts up each time{counter name="Invoice" start=1}
UUIDA random unique ID{uuid}
RandomOne of several options{random options="Hi, Hello, Hey"}

Tips:

  • Pad a counter with zeros: {counter name="Invoice" start=1 pad=4} gives 0001.
  • Dates take a style (short, medium, long, full, iso, time), a pattern like yyyy-MM-dd, or the name of a saved date format.

Automation

TokenWhat it insertsExample
Shell CommandThe output of a command{shell cmd="date +%Y"}
AIText written by an AI model{ai prompt="Reply politely to this" input=selection}
  • A shell command times out after 5 seconds. Change it with timeout=10.
  • The AI token reads the selection by default. Use input=clipboard, input=none, or the name of a field. Use preset="Proofread" to run one of your AI presets.

Layout

TokenWhat it doesExample
Cursor PositionWhere the caret ends up after inserting{cursor}
If / ElseText that depends on a field{if Status == "OPN"}…{else}…{end}
NoteA comment that isn't inserted{note text="Reminder for editors"}

If / Else

Pick If / Else in Insert Token to build a condition without typing it.

{if Status == "OPN"}We're on it.{else}This ticket is closed.{end}

You can compare with:

  • == and !=
  • contains, startsWith, endsWith
  • in, to match one of several values: Status in ("OPN", "NEW")
  • >, <, >=, <= for numbers

Combine conditions with and, or, not and parentheses. Add more branches with {elseif ...}. A field on its own is true when it's filled in and not false or 0, so {if Notes}…{end} only shows when you typed notes.

Date formats

Save a date format once and use it by name. Open Building Blocks ▸ Date Formats, click +, give it a name like Invoice and a pattern like d MMM yyyy. Then use it anywhere:

{date format="Invoice"}

The editor shows a live sample and the pattern symbols, so you don't need to remember them.
