iCloud Sync
PastePal uses Apple iCloud to sync your clipboard history across your Mac, iPhone, and iPad.
Sync is not instant — after copying something on one device, it typically appears on your other devices within a few seconds to a minute, depending on your network and the system workload.
Setup checklist
Before troubleshooting, confirm all of these are in place:
- Both devices are signed into the same iCloud account
- Both devices are connected to the internet
- iCloud Sync is enabled in PastePal Settings on both devices
- PastePal is open and running on your Mac (sync requires the app to be active)
- iCloud is enabled for PastePal in system settings:
- iPhone/iPad: Settings › [Your Name] › iCloud › Apps Using iCloud → PastePal: on
- Mac: System Settings › [Your Name] › iCloud › iCloud Drive › Apps syncing to iCloud Drive → PastePal: on
Syncing images
To sync copied images, enable Sync Images via iCloud Drive in PastePal Settings. Note that only images you've copied are supported — not image files dragged in from Finder.
If sync isn't working
Work through these in order — most sync issues are solved by the first few steps.
1. Wait a little longer Sync can take up to a few minutes when your device is busy or just woke up. Try copying something new on one device and waiting 2–3 minutes before checking the other.
2. Check power and Low Power Mode iCloud sync may be slow or throttled when your device is running low on power. If you see Low Power Mode turned on, that's a sign your device is in a low power state — try turning it off and waiting a few minutes.
- iPhone/iPad: Settings › Battery › Low Power Mode → off
- Mac: System Settings › Battery → Low Power Mode → off
If turning off Low Power Mode doesn't help, try plugging in your device and letting it charge for a few minutes before checking sync again.
3. Check iCloud status Apple's iCloud servers occasionally have outages. Check the Apple System Status page (opens in a new tab) to confirm iCloud is fully operational.
4. Check for VPN or network restrictions Some VPNs block iCloud traffic. Try disconnecting your VPN and syncing again. On work or school devices, your organisation may have restrictions that prevent iCloud Drive from working — check with your IT department.
5. Sign out and back into iCloud If nothing else works, signing out of iCloud and back in often resets a stuck sync. Make sure you know your Apple ID password before doing this.
- iPhone/iPad: Settings › [Your Name] › Sign Out
- Mac: System Settings › [Your Name] › Sign Out
After signing back in, open PastePal and allow a few minutes for sync to re-establish.
