AI Presets
AI presets rewrite, summarize and answer with one click. They run on your Mac by default, so they're free, private and work offline.

- In a snippet:
{ai prompt="Reply politely to this" input=selection}or{selection | ai:"Proofread"}. See Tokens. - After dictation: Run what you said through a preset before it's inserted. See Dictation.
When a preset shows its result, you can:
- Replace the selection (⌘Return)
- Insert After the selection
- Copy the result
- Retry for another answer
- Cancel (Esc)
Press Show the last result again (set it in Settings ▸ Shortcuts) to bring back the last result.

Make your own preset
Open Actions ▸ AI Presets and click New Preset. A preset has:
- Name and Symbol
- Instructions: What the model should do, for example "Rewrite as a short social post". Keep it short, since the on-device model has a small context.
- Tone Example: Optional. A sample of your writing for the model to match.
- Input: Selected text, Clipboard, or Ask for a prompt.
- Result: Show and let me choose, Replace the selection, Insert after the selection, or Copy to the clipboard.
- Provider: Use the default provider or pick another one.
- Creativity: From Precise to Creative.
Use your preset in snippets with {selection | ai:"Preset name"} or {ai preset="Preset name"}.
Providers
Set up models in Settings ▸ AI Providers.
- On this Mac: Apple's on-device model. Free, private and works offline. Best for short text. Long selections need another provider.
- OpenAI-compatible server: Any server with an OpenAI-compatible API, including model servers running locally on your Mac, like
http://localhost:11434/v1. Enter a name, the base URL, an API key if it needs one, and pick a model. Click Refresh to load the server's models.
Turn on Use by default for the provider presets should use, and click Test to check it works.
